In keeping with the mandate of OBRA 90 we counsel every patient when the need exist. At LanRx Pharmacy, our commitment to counseling goes beyond a mandate; it is a professional standard in our duty to prevent prescription errors and optimize patient outcome. Consequently, we pay attention to the following:
- Name: brand, generic or other descriptive name(s).
- Intended use and expected action.
- Route, dosage form, dosage and administration
- Administration schedule.
- Special directions for administration.
- Precautions to be observed during administration.
- Common side effects that may be encountered, including their avoidance and
the action required if they occur. - Other conditions that may contraindicate the use of the prescribed medication.
- Techniques for self monitoring of drug therapy.
- Proper storage.
- Potential drug-drug or drug-food interactions or other therapeutic contraindications.
- Prescription refill information.
- Action to be taken in the event of a missed dose.
- Any other information peculiar to the specific patient or drug.
- We take the initiative to check our patient’s blood pressure, blood sugar, respiration, and pulse rate from time to time to ensure that they are compliant with their drug regimen and getting the maximum therapeutic benefits from their drugs with the least adverse effects. If we notice any abnormality, we immediately notify the patient’s doctor and/or his or her caregiver.
